This week’s guest is Tsia Carson, the author of
the great new book “Craftivity: 40 Projects for the
DIY Lifestyle.” Tsia, 36, of Beacon, New York, is the
founder of SuperNaturale, a fabulous
independent website where the movers and shakers
on the art/craft scene post articles and discuss
all things DIY. It’s a great site if you haven’t
checked it out yet, you definitely should.
Tsia is a mother, artist, crafter and partner at Flat, a multidisciplinary design firm in New York City. She has taught at both Yale University and the Rhode Island School of Design. So, she has the street cred to tell us a thing or two about art, craft and DIY culture.
Tune in to find out more about “Craftivity.” With 40 projects, the book contains a variety of excellent contributions from Tsia’s SuperNaturale pals, including Jenny Hart of Sublime Stitching fame and Callie Janoff, founding minister of the Church of Craft and several other impressive DIYers that you’ll love. This book is great for people like me who like to flit about the DIY scene, trying every medium there is. This book will give you a reason to create art with yarn, paper, plastic, wood, glass, felted sweaters, old T-shirts, lighting fixtures and thift store finds.

I’m digging several projects in the book. But I really have a thing for the Pom-Pom Rug by Lana Le on p.23. Check it out.

This week's project is the Felt Pillows project by Scott Bodenner found on page 85 of "Craftivity". Download the pdf and give some old sweaters a second wind! Thanks Tsia and HarperCollins for letting me post this project.
"Sew Subversive" Contest Wrapup: Contrats to Claire in California, who was randomly selected by CraftSanity’s V.P. of fun to win the free copy of "Sew Subversive: Down & Dirty DIY for the Fabulous Fashionista" by Melissa Alvarado and Hope Meng who, along with their friend Melissa Rannels, co-own Stitch Lounge, an urban sewing studio in San Francisco. I'll be posting all the contest entries, so check back for those. Thanks to everyone who entered and Taunton Press for donating the book.
This
week's contest: In the introduction of
“Craftivity” Tsia writes about why we make things,
and I'd like to hear from you on this topic. To get
into a drawing for a free copy of “Craftivity,” all
you have to do is post a comment below answering the
following question: Why do you craft?
Feel free to take this question wherever it leads you. Please copy/paste your comment into an e-mail to me along with your mailing address, so I can get the book to the winner. Obviously, I don’t want you to post your mailing address here. Thanks to HarperCollins for donating the book. Good luck everyone! The deadline is Tuesday, Dec. 12.
